GymMix

GymMix is a mobile app designed to empower users to craft personalized workouts from a curated library of exercises. Inspired by my own gym routine and the limitations of using basic checklists, I set out to create a more intentional, flexible, and motivating workout experience — like Spotify, but for fitness.

Designs can be shared upon request.

✨ My Role

I led the end-to-end creation of GymMix from the initial spark of the idea to defining the product strategy, designing the UX/UI, and architecting the core functionality.

💡 Problem & Insight

Gym-goers often feel stuck between following influencer workout videos and trying to remember which exercises they like or which muscle groups they need to hit. Many tools are either too rigid or too scattered. I noticed a gap for a clean, intuitive app that lets users build and remix their own workouts based on desired muscle groups, time available, and personal preferences.

🧱 Key Features & Design Architecture

  • Exercise Library: Users can create a personal list of favorite exercises, each tagged with relevant muscle groups (e.g., glutes, arms, core).
  • Workout Builder: From this library, users can mix and match exercises to build one-time workouts based on focus areas and duration (number of exercises).
  • Preview & Edit: Before starting, workouts can be reviewed, rearranged, or modified—giving users full control.
  • Save to Library: After completion, users can save workouts they enjoyed for future reuse or improvement.
  • Gamification (In Progress): Inspired by user feedback, I’m exploring a light progression system that includes difficulty levels, achievements, and visible milestones to encourage continued growth.

🔁 Iterative Design Process

With every screen, I focused on clarity, minimal friction, and a sense of empowerment. Early wireframes helped shape the flow, and feedback loops helped refine which features felt essential vs. optional. Below, you’ll see a set of early wireframes illustrating how users navigate from goal-setting to workout execution.

📈 What’s Next

I’m continuing to explore:

  • Smart suggestions based on past usage (progressive overload prompts)
  • Community-driven workout templates
  • Simple analytics (e.g., frequency, variety, muscle group balance)
